Competence
of the Sarajevo Canton: -
establishment and supervision of police
force; -
setting the education policy, including bringing of regulations
concerning education and education insurance; -
setting and implementing
the culture policy; -
setting the housing policy, including bringing
of regulations concerning the establishment and building of housing structures; -
setting the policy concerning regulations and insurance of public service;

bringing the regulations on local land utilization, including
zoning; -
bringing the regulations on improvement of local business
and charitable activities; -
bringing the regulations on local
plants for electricity generation and insurance of their availability; -
setting the policy concerning the radio and television insurance, including
bringing the regulations on insurance of their work and constructions; -
implementation of social policy and establishment of social care services;

is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina
and of the Canton Sarajevo. The City of Sarajevo is a local self-management
unit. The City of Sarajevo consists of the following municipalities: Stari
grad, Centar, Novo Sarajevo and Novi grad. Based on the Constitution of
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Constitution of the Federation of B&H, Amendment I
on the Constitution of the Canton Sarajevo, Law on Local Self-Management and the
Statute of the City of Sarajevo, the City of Sarajevo is competent for:

urban planning/local land utilization; -
public services/infrastructure
(water, sewerage, collection of waste materials, heating, gas, markets, public
parks, fire department companies, local health services, sports facilities, cemeteries); -
City finances; -
public transport; -
culture; -
elementary and secondary education; -
local business; -
charity organizations; -
local radio and television; -
local tourism; -
executive aspects of the housing policy (assigning
apartments, planning, construction and maintenance of buildings that are state
property, decisions on rent price); -
other competences transferred
to he City of Sarajevo by the Canton, or entrusted by municipalities. Course
of strategic development The development Strategy of the Canton Sarajevo
by the year 2015 has determined the strategic sectors for strengthening the economic
basis of the Canton Sarajevo including: -

Within Ministry
of economics there are the following inspection services: -
Veterinary service, - Forestry - Agricultural service, - Market service,
- Power-supply service, - Water resources management service, - Tourism
- Catering inspection. SCOPE OF MINISTRYMinistry of
economics performs administrative, professional and other activities defined by
the Law, and related to authority of Canton in the field of economy, industry
and energetics, use of natural resources, water resouces management, agriculture,
forestry, veterinary, trade, tourism and catering. Within scope of Ministry there
are also: - suggesting and implementing of policy in the field
of industry and energetics, - usage of natural resources in accordance with
the Law of Federation and Canton, - foreign investments in local companies,
in accordance with legal regulations, - trade of goods and services within
Canton, - following and analysis of export and import of goods and services
in Canton area, - participating in creation of export and import policy in
order to protect production within Canton area (approval of import and export
contingents for certain products in coordination with Ministry of trade of Federation),
- control of prices for products and services in accordance with law,
- creation and implementation of cantonal tourism policy, development of tourism
resouces, - provision of conditions for development and improvement of agriculture,
- growing, protection and improvement of forests, - afforestation of
destroyed forests, rocky grounds and bare mountains, - forest roads and forest
exploitation, - organization and performance of veterinary institutions and
health protection of animals, - manufacture and trade of medicines uced in
veterinary medicine, - regulation of water regime, protection of water, protection
from damaging effects of water, - protection from erosions, floods and accidents
